Style index

Twelve tattoo styles, drawn the way artists tattoo them

Each style has its own rules: line weight, how shading is built, how much negative space it needs to age well. The generator follows them, so a traditional piece reads bold at arm’s length and fine line stays crisp at 5 cm.

  • Fine line tattoo design of a luna moth resting inside a crescent moon

    Fine line

Single-needle detail for botanicals, small script and delicate portraits. Best kept above 4 cm so the lines don’t blur together as they heal.

    1RL to 3RLthin liners

  • American traditional tattoo design of a swallow carrying a ribbon banner

    American traditional

Heavy outlines, a limited palette of red, yellow, green and black, and classic flash subjects: daggers, swallows, roses, panthers. Ages better than any other style.

7RL to 11RLbold liners, magnum fill

  • Neo traditional tattoo design of a fox head crowned with autumn flowers

    Neo-traditional

Traditional’s bold structure with richer color, varied line weight and ornamental framing, common for animal portraits and floral pieces.

    5RL to 9RLvaried weight

  • Blackwork tattoo design of a raven with negative space feather shapes

    Blackwork

Solid black fills and strong contrast. Works for large graphic pieces, and for covering up an old tattoo.

    9RL · 15M1packed black

  • Japanese irezumi tattoo design of a koi swimming through curling waves

    Japanese (Irezumi)

Waves, koi, peonies and dragons composed to flow with the body’s muscles. Designed for sleeves, back pieces and chest panels.

    9RL · 23RMwind bars, soft shade

  • Black and grey realism tattoo design of a wolf portrait with detailed fur

    Realism, black & grey

Smooth grey-wash gradients for portraits, animals and statues. Needs size to keep detail, so plan on 12 cm or more.

    3RL · 13RMgrey wash

  • Geometric tattoo design of a sacred geometry mandala with concentric rings

    Geometric

Sacred geometry, mandalas and precise linework, drawn perfectly symmetrical so the stencil sits true on curved placements.

    3RL to 5RLclean liners

  • Dotwork tattoo design of a stippled sun and crescent moon face emblem

    Dotwork

Shading built entirely from stippled dots. Soft gradients that heal with a gentle, matte texture.

    3RLstipple / whip

  • Watercolor tattoo design of a hummingbird and flower with loose paint splashes

    Watercolor

Loose washes of color that bleed past a light black frame. Keeping a black frame helps the color hold its shape over the years.

    5RL · 13RMsoft color

  • Minimalist single line tattoo design of a wildflower stem with two leaves

    Minimalist

A few confident lines and lots of negative space. Great for first tattoos, fingers, wrists and behind the ear.

    1RL to 3RLsingle pass

  • Blackletter lettering tattoo design reading amor fati in gothic calligraphy

    Lettering & script

Names, dates and quotes set in blackletter, script or typewriter lettering, spaced so letters don’t close up as the ink settles.

    3RL to 7RLby letter height

  • Ornamental tattoo design of a sternum filigree pendant with a teardrop gem

    Ornamental

Filigree, lace and jewelry-inspired patterns that wrap the sternum, hands, spine and underbust.

    3RL · 7M1line & soft fill

How it works

From an idea to a stencil in four steps

  1. Step 1

    Describe it

Write it the way you’d tell your artist: the subject, the meaning, a mood. Pick a style, a placement and a height in centimeters.

    Up to 400 characters · 12 styles
  2. Step 2

    Refine it

Get four variations. Keep the one you like and ask for changes in plain words, like “smaller wings” or “add a date under it”.

    Unlimited revisions on Pro
  3. Step 3

    Try it on

See the design as healed ink on six skin tones and at the real size for the placement you chose, before anything is permanent.

    Fitzpatrick types I to VI
  4. Step 4

    Take it to your artist

Export a clean-line stencil at true size, or send your artist a share link with the prompt and every version you made.

FAQ

Questions before the chair

Anything else? Write to hello@aitattoolab.com and a real person will answer.

Is the AI tattoo generator free?

Yes. A free account gives you 3 prompts a day, with four designs each, in every style. Pro adds stencil export, unlimited edits and private designs.

Can a tattoo artist actually use these designs?

Yes, and that’s what we build for. Designs come with clean line separation and a stencil export at the real size for your placement. Most artists will still adjust a design to fit your body, and they should.

Who owns the tattoo designs I generate?

You do. Anything you generate is yours to get tattooed, and paid plans include a commercial license. Designs on the Free plan may show up on the public flash wall unless you upgrade.

How do I see what a tattoo will look like on my skin?

Switch the preview to “On skin” and pick one of six skin tones (Fitzpatrick types I to VI). The preview shows the design as healed ink, which sits softer and a little bluer than fresh ink.

What size should my tattoo be?

Set the height with the slider. We warn you when the detail is too fine for that size, for example fine line under 4 cm or realism under 12 cm, because very small detail blurs as the tattoo ages.

Can I upload a photo or sketch to start from?

Yes, once you’re signed in. Upload a pet photo, a handwriting sample or a rough sketch and describe what to change. We delete uploads after 30 days.
