What people want from a Leo tattoo

The traits astrologers attach to Leo are confidence, generosity, pride and a need to be seen. In a design that turns into the mane, which is where every Leo piece succeeds or fails. A lion with a flat mane reads as a big cat. A mane drawn with direction, sun rays, flame, brush strokes or heavy black shapes, reads as the sign.

Placement follows the same logic. Leos who want the tattoo seen put it on the forearm, the outer bicep or the calf. The lion is a serious piece. A head at 15 to 20 cm is four to six hours. A full lion or a mythological scene at 25 cm and up is a multi session job, and in most American cities that lands somewhere between $700 and $1200. The chest, thigh, upper back and outer arm all give a mane the room it needs.

Styles that suit it, and how it ages

Black and grey realism is the default for the lion and it ages well, because heavy contrast survives line spread. Neo traditional suits a stylised mane. Japanese influenced brushwork suits the glyph. Fine line lions look beautiful for five years and then blur, since a mane is hundreds of thin strokes close together, which is exactly what spreading ink ruins.

If you want fine line anyway, size up. A 20 cm fine line lion has room between the hairs. A 10 cm one does not. For the Sickle, keep dots at 1.5 mm and up with 3 to 4 mm between them, and take the whole design to a licensed artist who will space it for your skin rather than for the screen.
