The qualities astrologers give Aries are initiative, bluntness, physical courage and a short fuse. People asking for the tattoo want the first three drawn and the fourth implied. In practice that means a ram with its head lowered rather than grazing, a glyph with weight in the strokes, or a star pattern placed somewhere you can see it yourself.

The ram is an old symbol with a lot of history attached, from the golden fleece to battering rams, and none of it needs to be in the design. A single clean horn curve carries the idea. Artists see far more overloaded Aries pieces than sparse ones, and the fix is almost always removing something.
